Haxby Road won the Williamson Cup in fine style toppling unbeaten Holgate 88-70.

Steve Sanderson skipped Roy Robinson, Mick Clark and Brian Brigham to a 30-16 winning score backed up by Dave Stroughair, John Butler, and John Phillips with lead Jamie Birkley who won 23-11. Birkley was man of the match.

Ken Harrison's rink trailed for most of the game but rallied at the vital time to snatch a 17-16 win to deprive Holgate of their undefeated tag.

West Bank Park sides have comfortably won all three York Amateur Bowling Association Leagues - Holgate in division one, West Park division two and Poppleton Road WMC division three.

The only promotion place left to decide is division two where Hull Road Park require three points from their last home game against West Park to snatch the runners up spot from Holgate WMC.

In the competition semi finals two previous champions met in the singles with Geoff Eagles (RI Corinthians) coming out on top against Tex Stevens (Holgate) 21-15. He will meet Gordon Storey (Retreat), who beat Joe Smith (Holgate WMC) 21-19.

Pairs favourites Eddie Howcroft and Peter Littlewood (Holgate) went out 23-11 to Peter Godwin and Dennis Sanderson (RI Corinthians). Gerald Mackie and Noel Mallen also reached the final beating the RI Corinthians pair of Mal Bulmer and Dave Preece 23-19.

Dave Harrison's Bert Keech triple will defend the triples title against John Emmerson's Holgate team.
