I AM fully in favour of the proposed lap-dancing club in York.

Although 71 and a teetotaller, I hope I will get a chance to visit it and see these healthy and, no doubt, beautiful women exercising in free abandon; and thoroughly enjoying themselves.

It should be available in York for those who wish to go to see it, just as, in a free country, churches are available for people.

I notice a clergyman has already objected. Why?

I haven't been to church since I left school in 1950 - nor is anyone likely to force him to go to this club, when opened. It is supposed to be a free country.

If the churchy-types want to argue over this, I do insist there seems to me to be far more sense in going to see beautiful women (to me, as a man), than dwelling continuously on a brutal porno-sadistic image of a crucifixion.

It is all right as an example of cruelties that should not happen, but not carried on to obsessive extremes, whether or not one chooses to believe the significance the clergy give it.

I say live and let live, and bring on the dancing girls.
