CLIFTON Cycling Club are second in the British Cycling Federation's regional league table after a string of good results for their road racers.

In-form Steve Savage took the honours in the East Riding Yorkshire League, breaking away with Clifton team-mate Andy Johnston.

His victory followed his overall win in the TLI Bob Jackson Road Race Series at Boroughbridge. The Clifton man finished joint leader along with Matthew Peacock while Clifton's Phil Bixby came joint fifth and Arthur Clune seventh.

The last race in the series was switched from the flooded Milby circuit after heavy rain to the Walshford circuit and saw victory go to Yorkshire RC's Carl Saint. Andy Johnston was second, Paul Musgrave (Clifton CC) third and Clune eighth.

Another Clifton rider in top form is veteran Keith Richardson, who won the over 70s in the Adept Precision 25-mile time trial in a time of 1 hour 3 minutes 17 seconds.

Strong winds and driving rain greeted riders tackling the Clifton Tan Hill Audax event which saw 34 riders finish the gruelling 140 mile challenge ride around the Yorkshire Dales.

Clifton president Mick McCormick was the oldest finisher at 72, and riders from as far away as Cambridge and Bristol also braved the weather to complete the event in under 12 hours.
