COUNCIL bosses have received thousands of responses following a public consultation on the future of the region’s libraries.
The exercise, which ended this week, asked residents for their views on how their library service can be protected as North Yorkshire County Council tries to shave £2.3 million from its budget for the area.
This could lead to some branches closing or being taken over by community groups. More than 2,000 people attended public meetings staged across North Yorkshire.
The responses are now being analysed and recommendations for the library service’s future will be considered by the council’s key decision-makers in May. The authority says it still wants to hear from community organisations or other potential partners who might be interested in becoming involved in the service or have suggestions.
