York Knavesmire Harriers men’s team took a superb 37th place and finished as the first North Yorkshire club home in the English National Cross Country Championship at Alton Towers.
The race – run in muddy condition – proved testing on the 10k course. Tom Edwards took 177th place with Johnny Kendal in 288th, Darren Hendley 516th, Giles Hawking 560th, Barry Atkinson 709th and Rory Henderson in 711th.
In the ladies race, the Mire girls came 35th. Abey Lawrence returned to form in 137th with Caroline Warrington 164th. Asylin Kendal was 271st. The race also showed a welcome return for Andrea Lancaster in 330rd and Sarah Douglas, who was 431st.
