A MAXIMUM haul was extracted by City of York Hockey Club ladies’ first XI from their North League division one trip to Kendal.

York won 4-1 after initially surviving severe home pressure.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play when, from their first attack, Loz Pearey teed up Laura Horne to lift the ball over the Kendal ’keeper.

The lead was doubled from a breakaway play with Ali Butler crossing from the right for Horne to score her second.

The visitors now had the greater bulk of possession and were only denied a third goal by a smart save from a Lauren Boddison penalty flick.

Early in the second half, Kendal halved the deficit, but York just pushed further on and restored their two-goal cushion when Butler drove home after a shot hit an upright.

Just before full-time the icing on the cake was delivered with Horne striking her third after a fine run and cross by Rowena Simpson.

But there was no away-day joy for the ladies’ seconds who lost 2-1 at Ben Rhydding in the first division of the Yorkshire League.

After a fine start, York broke the deadlock when a Karen Howells short corner was prodded in by woman of the match Vicky Skilton.

Loose marking enabled the hosts to level just before the interval before Rhydding sealed victory with a late winner.
