Michael and Eileen Scott are exhibiting at the Norman Rea Gallery, Langwith College, University of York, until Friday.
The Scotts are the benefactors of the gallery, which is run by a student committee. “We’re delighted to welcome them back for a vibrant and interesting exhibition,” says show curator Emilia Will.
Michael Scott paints in acrylic and oils, his style being a blend of figurative and abstract that leads to his work being likened to that of the Fauvist movement.
Emilia said: “They have a garden-like or sylvan quality in which pleasure coexists with stress.”
Eileen has painted mainly still life and flower paintings. “They exemplify what has always been her primary goal: creating a picture of the vital essence of her subjects, and achieving a ‘glowing’ quality in the process,” said Emilia.
