THE two-page article in The Press on the proposed Great Street has shown just how ludicrous it is (The Press, February 23). How anybody can imagine the people of this city will ever agree to tram lines set on red bricks through beautiful medieval streets is beyond me. It’s hard enough to find an acceptable, temporary site for the wheel.

If a new Great Street is a good idea at all – which I doubt – then why from the university to the railway station?

Only an out-of-town academic would think that it the most important route in the city.
