THE Mansion House in York reopens its doors this week for the start of a new season of tours.
Every year, between March and Christmas, visitors have the chance to take a look around the official residence of the Lord Mayor of York, including the secret drawers in the bureau and the medieval sword which belonged to the Holy Roman emperor Sigismund.
Richard Pollitt, City of York Council’s Mansion House and Guildhall manager, said: “It is one of the most prestigious buildings in the city, with so much hidden history and treasures for people to explore.
“Last year, we set a new record with more than 2,500 visitors, and we’re hoping to set another one this year.”
Tours can be booked for large or small groups and each one is led by an experienced guide.
They take place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm, with prices starting at £5 for adults and £4 for concessions, while under-16s and residents have free entry.
