York City midfielders David McDermott and Will Hatfield joined in the fun at the club’s half-term community camps.

Both players turned up to the PlayFootball sessions at Clifton Moor and helped with the training sessions, as well as handing out prizes, certificates, goodie bags and Player of the Week prizes.

PlayFootball was one of four centres that York City in the Community ran courses from this week with hundreds of youngsters, between the ages of five and 14, also put through their paces at Acomb’s Energise Sports Centre, Selby Abbey Leisure Centre and Norton College.

About the week’s success, City community coach Daniel Parker said: “We had more than 250 children attending the courses and it was a thrill for the kids to meet the players.”

The community department are also planning to run courses at the same four venues throughout the two-week Easter holidays, starting on Monday, April 11.

Four-day camps are already confirmed for PlayFootball and Energise.
