A MAN accused of murdering child killer Colin Hatch has appeared at court charged with the crime.

Damien Fowkes, 35, appeared at Beverley Magistrates Court today via video link from Full Sutton Prison - the scene of the alleged attack.

The clerk said to Fowkes during the five-minute hearing: “It is alleged that on February 22 at HM Prison Full Sutton you murdered Colin David Hatch. This case needs to be sent to crown court today as the magistrates are unable to deal with this matter.

“Next Monday Hull Crown Court does not have the appropriate tier of judge available so it is proposed the matter.”

Fiona Bolder, prosecuting, said: “The defendant is a serving prisoner and is to remain in custody on the grounds that he may commit further offences.”

His barrister Joe Stone was asked by chairwoman of the bench Diane Wiggins if he had any observations, and he replied that he did not.

The case will next be heard at Hull Crown Court on Tuesday, March 8.
