THE final round of the Bob-Co Winter Angling League was fished on Kingfisher Lake at Tollerton Ponds in dire conditions.

Gary Watson, of Bob-Co, led from peg 18, where maggot at five metres brought him a mixed net of tench, roach and skimmers totalling 21lb 2oz.

Team-mate Graham Broadley took second spot at peg three, where maggot at 11 metres brought him an 8lb carp which he topped up to 11lb 3oz with roach and skimmers.

The final league positions were close fought with Mick Green coming out top on nine points, ahead of Watson with 11.

Andy Gallant and Steve Sharples tied on 14 points, with league organiser Gallant getting the nod on superior section wins.

An influx of cold water brought the level in the arc at Redwood Park ip to the pegs.

The extra water also dampened the spirits of the recently ravenous F1s.

Mick Lyons now leads the series following his third maximum points haul. Lyons caught 34lb 6oz of F1s and carp at 12 metres from end peg 30.

Paul Chappell caught a mixture of F1s and skimmers at peg 24 for a second-placed 25lb 1oz.

Paul Banks caught some quality carp for 20lb 1oz, alternating between the waggler and feeder at peg 26.

Snow, sleet and extra water failed to put off the roach on the Ouse above York on Saturday, but ensured that most opted for a feeder approach including the day’s winner Steve Whitfield, who found fish to ten ounces from peg 254 at Linton.

He finished the day with a respectable 7lb 11oz in the net.

Four pegs downstream, Dave Topham also used worm and maggot on the tip to secure 7lb 3oz and a narrowly won second place.

The following day once again there were bonus fish were scarce to be found and it was basically a roach-dominated fourth round of the Leeds Winter League won by Dave Taylor.

Drawn at peg 258 on Linton’s middle reaches, Taylor used maggot feeder at half width to take 19 roach for 4lb 14oz.

Ian Bowman drew well at 295 on Linton Bottom, where alternated maggot and worm on the feeder brought 15 roach and a solo skimmer to earn second place with 3lb 8oz.
