A FOOTBALL signed by the Manchester United team, including legends Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney, is the star lot at a charity auction tonight.

Wayne Brady, organiser of the event, is hoping the ball will help him reach his goal of raising hundreds for research into leukaemia.

The auction, which takes place at the Post Office Club in Marygate, came about after Mr Brady’s friend, Terry Wells, died from the disease last year, at the age of 53.

He said: “I wrote to various football clubs and got the Manchester United ball; that’s the star exhibit, which I will be auctioning off at about 10pm.”

Tickets for the event, which will also see live music from York band Neosoul, have sold out and Mr Brady said he has had an “amazing response”.

He said: “I am hoping for £500 from the sale of the ball.”
