HEALTH, council and youth workers and schools have been praised after a study revealed a decline in the rate of teenage pregnancies in York.
The Press the reported how latest figures for York show the teenage pregnancy quarterly rate has dropped to 26.6 per thousand for young women aged under 18, the lowest rate for 13 years.
The figures also showed York had 83 conceptions in 2009, the first time it has been below 100 since 2001.
Coun Carol Runciman, City of York Council’s young people’s services chief, said: “The work of the council’s teenage pregnancy and health teams, together with schools and youth organisations, means York has one of the lowest teenage conception rates of any similar authority in the country.”
