POLICE have been drafted in ahead of tonight's crunch City of York Council budget meeting at York's Guildhall.
Large protests are expected ahead of the 6.30pm meeting, as the council looks to impose cuts of £21.1 million in 2011/12.
Demonstrators have stormed budget meetings elsewhere in the country in recent days, staging a sit-in at Lambeth and taking over the council chamber in Leeds.
A spokeswoman for City of York Council said the police presence was due to the expected large number of protesters, but was not a direct response to the incidents elsewhere.
