PLEASE don’t print any more of Professor Alan Simpson’s views, they only serve to increase my blood pressure (The Press, February 16).
The New City Beautiful report makes the Big Society seem simple and comprehensible. ‘Great Streets’, ‘Rampart Parks’, tree-lined boulevards, new tram routes and now timber staircases or platforms to provide new access points to the Walls, presumably with part of the masonry removed as well.
York already has great streets, rampart parks and tree-lined boulevards (New Walk); admittedly the trams are no more, and there are plenty of access points to the Walls already.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Nick Derbyshire, South Esplanade, York.
