RESIDENTS have confronted councillors over plans to build a big wheel behind York Art Gallery.

Members of City of York Council’s planning committee today visited the site in the Museum Gardens where the 53-metre observation wheel is planned, prior to making a decision tomorrow night.

Officers have recommended approval and business and tourism leaders say it would boost York's important tourism economy.

But local people claimed the wheel would be out of character for the area, spoil views of the Minster and might disturb their children's sleep.
