YOUR article (The Press, February 8) on the budget proposals by the Liberal Democrats to maintain spending on roads and pavements at current levels (£5.4 million) appears to fly in the face of the budget difficulties it is claimed are faced by the council needing to save £21 million next year.
What your article does not say is that there are proposals before the council to cut more £5 million or 13.3 per cent from its social services budget for next year (for reference, see meeting of executive member for social services, February 3).
This will directly affect all vulnerable adults and children living in York. So much for Coun Waller’s comments in the same article: “Our proposals respond to residents wishes to protect the vulnerable.”
The hypocrisy of the Liberal Democrats at national level is now becoming evident locally.
