ONCE again Selby District Council is determined to upset residents in Kellington.

Some three years ago, we were fighting the eco-town – now we have been hit by development land consultation, Kellington being one of the designated service villages.

There are apparently three identified sites for affordable residential sites and three gipsy/traveller sites. Kellington does not have that many young people waiting for affordable housing and the majority of this would be filled by social security rent payers.

As for the traveller site, just how many people are we talking about here? Three fields – are we expecting the whole Romany population of the UK to come to Kellington?

About the time of the last fiasco, we were asked if would we like allotments and the numbers coming forward far exceeded the number needed for it to go ahead; but nothing happened with that.

There are many reasons why this building programme should be scrapped and here are a few: flooding, poor roads, inadequate sewerage, mining subsidence, poor public transport, the school is not big enough, and a general lack of amenities.
