POLICE in North Yorkshire have joined an international scheme to fight credit and debit card fraud.

Officers have teamed up with Visa Europe to provide police officers with a payment card crime guide, which will enable them to identify bogus debit or credit cards at an early stage.

The guide also provides information about the Fraud Act 2006, and will help the identification of other equipment used by fraudsters.

Detective Inspector Ian Wills, of North Yorkshire Police’s financial investigation unit, said: “This is an extremely useful addition to the toolbox in our drive to crack down on this type of crime.”

DI Wills said the public can help prevent becoming victims of fraud by protecting their PINs by standing close to cash machines and shielding the key pad, and checking for anything unusual about a cash machine.
