PUPILS at Tadcaster Grammar School said it with flowers for charity on Valentine’s Day.

Silk roses were sold to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

This is the second year Project Rose had been run at the school by sixth form students. For £2 per stem, students were able to buy roses anonymously and have them hand delivered.

Project Rose was the brainchild of a student from a school in Winchester in 2007 to help support her mum who was being treated for breast cancer. Since then the non-profit organisation has raised thousands of pounds, with all proceeds donated to Cancer Research UK.

This year’s efforts at Tadcaster raised £400. For more information about Project Rose, or to become involved in next year’s campaign, visit projectrose.co.uk

Students who received roses were then able to enjoy a Valentine’s lunch prepared by the catering staff at the school, which included True Love Tomato Soup, Lovely Lasagne, Valentine’s Bolognaise and Pasta, Venus Veggie Wraps and Sweetheart Sponge and Cupid’s Custard.
