York Hospital Radio has received a £500 boost from one of the events it broadcasts to listeners on the wards.

York Community Carol Concert is broadcast every year to patients, and concert organisers have now handed the hospital radio station a donation to help meet the costs of such outdoor broadcasts.

Concert organiser Graham Bradbury said hospital radio had started broadcasting the concert in the 1960s when it was staged at the old SS Empire.

It had done so again after it moved to the Barbican in the 1990s and again in recent years when it had relocated to the University of York’s Concert Hall, where it was staged last December.

He said: “This year will see the concert once again returning to the reopened York Barbican on December 11, and the committee are delighted they can present York Hospital Radio with another cheque towards their running costs.

“We hope that our relationship will continue as we enter into a new era with Carols at the Barbican.”

A radio spokesman said the donation was gratefully received and would be used to enhance its outside broadcasting equipment.
