THE parents of a former York schoolgirl who died when her boyfriend pushed her off a car park roof have paid tribute to their “bubbly” and “fun” daughter.

Teresa Parkin, 29, the daughter of former York policeman Graham Parkin, plunged 11 metres from the top of a multi-storey car park in Torquay, Devon.

Her boyfriend, Shaun Foley, 45, has been jailed for eight years after a jury acquitted him of murder, but convicted him of manslaughter.

Graham and his wife, Maria, formerly of Chaloners Road, in Dringhouses and Kirkstone Drive, in Burnholme, revealed she had been so concerned about her “volatile” relationship with Foley that she had been forced to send her ten-year-old son Liam away to safety.

The couple said they had not been enamoured with the obvious age difference between Teresa and Shaun, but their daughter had seemed happy and moved with him to Torquay.

“She got a job as a chambermaid and housekeeper to fit around the upbringing and well-being of Liam, whom she doted on and would defend to the hilt,” they said.

The jury at Exeter Crown Court heard Teresa, who lived in York until she was eight, died on June 10 after she and Foley had been drinking in town centre pubs, falling 11 metres to the floor below.

Her parents, who now live at Colney, near Catterick, said: “Everyone who met Teresa liked her. She was bubbly with a good sense of fun and would always help those who were less fortunate than herself.

“Our lives have been taken away by this and we still cannot believe she is no longer here. She will be sorely missed by us.

“No sentence would be good enough for us. Our child meant everything: we wanted her to see us grow old, her son grow into a young man that she could be proud of, and we to see her grow older and for her to be there for her sister when required.

“This has been snatched away from us. We were proud of Teresa and always will be.”
