THIS group of young adventurers were presented with their Duke of Edinburgh Awards by the Lord Mayor of York.

Coun Sue Galloway presented the nationally-recognised awards to young people from across the city.

The bronze, silver and gold awards were presented to those who have successfully completed sections in volunteering, a physical skill and expedition activities.

Groups of young people aged from 14 to 25 years of age also spoke of their experiences of volunteering in the community and going on expeditions.

They also demonstrated their musical skills to parents, carers and invited guests.

A council spokesman said: “The award offers an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development available to young people.

“It encourages volunteering in the community and personal progression and is delivered by a network of volunteers across the city.”
