A PUB in York has been ordered to close until further notice after a raid by police drugs detectives.
Officers stormed the Corner House in Burton Stone Lane, Clifton, on Friday night and have now served a formal closure order on the pub.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said 25 officers went to the pub at about 8.45pm to execute a warrant, after local residents had raised concerns about drug use in the area.
During the raid, police detained eight people for drugs searches and then arrested two for possession of Class A and Class B substances.
A 24-year-old man from Clifton has been released on police bail as inquiries continue and a 25-year-old man, also from Clifton, was given an adult caution.
Sergeant Martin Metcalfe, of Clifton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said most local residents were “good people trying to get on with their lives”. But he said: “Unfortunately, a minority of people in the area persist in making life difficult for local residents by supplying and misusing drugs.
“This will not be tolerated as it attracts problem behaviour and drug-related crime to the area.”
He said he hoped the warrant would reassure Clifton residents that police would act on any information provided to them.
The force spokesman said the Clifton police team had executed more than 75 drugs warrants since July 2009. He said anyone wanting to report drug dealing or crime in their area should phone their local police team on 0845 6060247.
