A 12-YEAR-OLD boy has died following a crash on the A64.
The A64 was closed in both directions following the accident just before 7.45am today, near West Heslerton.
The boy was crossing the road, just past the Stones Garage, and was heading towards a bus stop when he was hit by a blue grey Renault Scenic and a white Transit van.
Paramedics treated the boy and the scene and he was taken to Scarborough General Hospital, where he later died.
Police are appealing for two vital witnesses following the collision.
Traffic Sergeant John Clayton, of the force’s Roads Policing Group, said: “I am urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision to come forward.
“In particular I need to speak to the drivers of two vehicles which passed through the scene a few moments after it occurred and ask them to contact me as soon as possible.”
Anyone who can help is asked to contact TS John Clayton on 0845 6060247, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
