BUSINESSES, schools and organisations are being urged to throw themselves into a city-wide competition.

The York Cycle Challenge is a fun, free event encouraging people who live or work in York to get on their bikes between Monday, March 14 and Sunday, April 3. The idea is to get as many people as possible to cycle for at least ten minutes during that period.

Organisations are being asked to enter teams with prizes, including a bicycle, cinema tickets and shopping vouchers, are up for grabs for teams and individuals.

Organisations in York can compete in any one of six different categories, depending on their size. The idea is that participants cycle at a time to suit them and will log details of their rides on the dedicated York Cycle Challenge website, which will enable teams to track their progress.

Graham Titchener, programme manager for Cycling City York, said: “The York Cycle Challenge will involve people of all age groups and levels of cycling ability at organisations across the city.”
