COUNCIL chiefs in York will take a fresh look at including views on 20mph speed limits in the city within a blueprint for its transport future.

A public consultation on introducing lower speed limits in residential areas was carried out last year, but the results were not intended to be included within the first draft of City of York Council’s Local Transport Plan 3 (LTP3), due to become publicly available later this month.

But councillors have voted in favour of asking the authority’s executive to do further consultation.

Anna Semlyen, of the 20’s Plenty campaign group, told councillors: “It’s hard to find anybody living in a 20mph limit area who wants the limit back at 30mph.”

Coun Steve Galloway, the council’s executive member for city strategy, said: “No decision has been made on the content of LTP3. The first draft will be discussed on February 1, where all councillors and residents will have the opportunity to make representations with the benefit of seeing the draft in ten days time.”
