THE floodgates opened for Heworth in the second half of their York Football Association Senior Minor Cup second round match against Thorpe United.

Leading at the break through Dan Barrett’s close-range goal after two minutes, Heworth put poor first-half finishing behind them after the interval to claim a 6-1 victory.

Two goals apiece from Charlie Harvey and George Huggan, plus a Stephen Littlewood goal, set the seal on a commanding team performance.

Rufforth United came back from an early goal to thump Wigginton Grasshoppers 10-3 in the York FA Minor Under-15s Cup second round.

Rufforth replied with a close- range shot from Jack Gowland and snatched the lead through a left-footed shot from Matthew Alexander.

In control, Gowland picked up a hat-trick, Billy Smith and Tom Bateson added a brace of goals and the scoring was completed by Jack Goodall and an own goal.

Grasshoppers’ goals were scored by George Pipes (2) and Jimmy Sutton.

Pocklington beat Copmanthorpe 7-0 in the second round of the York FA Under-14s Cup.

They took the lead after ten minutes when Jordan Low headed home a cross from the left wing and, by half time, Sam Shipley and Joe Mills added further goals to give Pocklington a 3-0 lead.

In the second half, a hat-trick of penalties were all scored – two from Shipley and one from Marty Gargett – and Gargett added another goal to complete the rout.

In the second round of the York FA Acaster Steel Cup, York RI were beaten 7-0 by York Cubs.

Cubs went in front after 20 minutes when a Cameron Burdass cross was netted from close-range by Alex Morris and Burdass and David Pearson increased the lead to 3-0 at the break.

Pearson completed his hat-trick in the second half and Robby Brown added two goals.

All the other scheduled fixtures in the competition were postponed.
