Wrapping: Four smartly dressed blokes standing in a smattering of snow. It’s hardly festive.

Content: A predictable selection of 16 festive frivolities sung in pleasantly traditional Christmassy way.

Style: Does what it says on the can. Otherwise think Coope, Boyes and Simpson meet the Kings Singers.

’Tis the reason to be jolly: The lads formed as a means of socialising but their meteoric rise is down to four pairs of fine lungs and a gift for harmony. Barbershop quartets have always been curiously enjoyable and this album is no different.

Scrooge moan: This album is no different.

White Christmas: Of course it’s here and it works nicely enough. These boys aren’t out to break musical boundaries, but this is as good a rendition as any, apart from Bing’s classic original.

Blue Christmas? Depends who you are. Daniel O’Donnell fans will love it. La Cole’s adoring army of adolescents will be driven mad, even before the turkey is carved.

Stocking or shocking? A must for grans; a must-not for granddaughters.
