MR A P Cox (Letters, November 30) has virtually said he does not care about the welfare of the residents in the streets he drives along because they are public highways.

This is typical of the attitude of many drivers on York Road, Haxby, as witnessed by the high percentage who ignore the flashing 30mph signs.

While driveways are iced up, we are nearly housebound because of this inconsiderate traffic, as it is dangerous to back out.

For Mr Cox’s information, I believe that in most streets, ‘frontagers’ own the land to the centre of the highway (though nor the actual surface). So residents should have more right to ‘their’ street than willy-nilly drivers.
