A POPULAR watering hole in York city centre has been nominated for a hat-trick of gongs in The Press Pub Awards.

The Old White Swan in Goodramgate has been put forward by customer April Scowen in the best entertainment, best food and best real ale categories.

In her supporting statement, Ms Scowen wrote: “This is a pub I frequently visit, due to the cost and distinctly British atmosphere, delicious food (and great value!) and I think the ale selection would appeal to any discerning Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) member.

“They also did a fantastic beer festival in summer, which was a brilliant opportunity for York locals to try something new. The entertainment is great too, as they offer a variety of live music nights and quizzes while managing to keep it classy, and not imposing the music/quizzes on to people who do not want to be disturbed by them, as the pub has different rooms.”

Ms Scowen also nominated Pivní in Patrick Pool as best real ale pub, saying it has a “truly excellent selection of ales and beers from around the world” and calling it a “lovely little pub overall”.

If you’d like to nominate a pub for one of our awards, it couldn’t be easier.

Complete the entry form or email gavin.aitchison@thepress.co.uk – include your name and contact details (phone number or email), the name of the pub you are nominating, and your reasons.

There will be a nomination form in The Press every Friday and we will announce the winners early in the new year.

The awards are open to all pubs within The Press’s circulation area, so if you can get The Press in your local newsagent, then your local pub will almost certainly qualify. If in doubt, phone 01904 567131.

Usual rules and conditions apply. The Editor’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
