FORMER York City boss Martin Foyle has moved quickly to end speculation linking him to other jobs.

Foyle has been put on media short-lists for the managerial vacancies at npower Championship Two club Lincoln City and Blue Square Bet Premier outfit Altrincham but has rubbished the rumours.

He also added that he hoped people could respect his right to keep private his reasons for resigning at Bootham Crescent.

Stoke-based Foyle stressed that he had not even informed his former assistant Andy Porter why he stepped down last week.

Current City caretaker chief Porter, himself, has also revealed that he had not been given an explanation for his good friend’s decision.

Foyle has, however, insisted that living away from his family was not a contributing factor.

The ex-Port Vale striker was linked with the Lincoln job after being spotted at the Imps’ home match against Stevenage just days before manager Chris Sutton parted company with the Sincil Bank outfit.

But the former City chief is keen to make clear that he attended the match as a spectator with a scouting friend “just to get out of the house” and will be watching Bury v Rotherham on a similar basis this afternoon.

Speaking to the Press, Foyle said: “I’ve not left York City for another job and I haven’t spoken to anybody from Lincoln, Altrincham or anywhere else I have been linked with.

“I also had no problems with living away from home in York despite what has been speculated. I enjoyed my time at York and, even though I left, the people I worked with there were great to me.

“Only one or two people know why I left the club and I haven’t even told Andy Porter. I left for my own reasons which I don’t want to go into at this stage and I hope people can respect that.”

City, meanwhile, have appointed Wayne Simpson as their new head groundsman.

Simpson previously worked at Scottish Premier League club Hibernian and was recommended to the Minstermen by the Institute of Groundsmen. He will replace Mark Hirst in the role.
