THE Tornado steam engine delighted rail fans as it passed through the region heading to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s autumn steam gala.

The train, which was built in Darlington in an A1 Steam Locomotive Trust-backed project, is on show at the gala over the weekend. The Peppercorn A1 class Pacific engine Tornado is the first steam engine to have been built in 50 years.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway staff have also several other trains sporting the London and North Eastern Railway livery on show.

The gala runs today and tomorrow and passengers can travel along the line in carriages pulled by the trains.
