COMMUNITY-MINDED youngsters in the west of York have been picking up litter as part of a schools project.
Pupils from Westfield, Hob Moor, Hob Moor Oaks and Woodthorpe Primary Schools worked with York High School students in a giant litter-picking event on Acomb Green.
The children were supported by Westfield’s street environment officer, Jackie Armitage, and by the Westfield Community Police team in one of its Capable Guardian initiatives, designed to reduce antisocial behaviour and help young people make a positive contribution to their local communities.
The Capable Guardian initiative has also been rolled out in the Heworth and Clifton wards of the city, with Guildhall and Hull Road next on the list.
The schools’ next venture is a joint teacher-training day in October, based at York High School, to develop further ideas to work together across the “West partnership” of schools.
