A TEENAGER was left bruised and bleeding after being attacked at York station.

British Transport Police have appealed for information to help their investigation into the incident which happened just after 8pm on Saturday.

PC Henry Thompson said the incident started when a group of friends standing inside Coopers Bar, at the main entrance to the station, were approached by a man who behaved inappropriately towards two of the women in the group.

“Upon leaving the bar, the victim was followed by the same man, and several other men, into the station,” he said.

“Suddenly, the man attacked the victim, knocking him to the floor and kicking him about the head and body.”

The victim, a 19-year-old man from Thirsk, sustained cuts to his face and bruising to his head and body.

PC Thompson added: “We believe the fight began after an argument between the men, but we need people to come forward to help us build up a clearer picture of what took place before, during and after the fight.

“We believe that after the attack the men made off to platform 10 and boarded the 8.26pm service from York to Middlesbrough.

"We are continuing to make local enquiries, have spoken with some witnesses and are also asking for help from anyone who may have seen anything or who may have any information that can assist our investigation."
