I write regarding the dispute concerning Micklegate Post office and a disgruntled customer (Parcel wrangle, September 24).

As a regular and happy customer at this post office, I wish to convey my full support for the owner, Mr Paul Abbott, who has always been incredibly helpful and courteous to me despite having to handle huge amounts of my eBay sales on a very regular basis. No matter how busy the shop both he, his wife and staff always give me a pleasant smile and nothing is ever too much trouble for them in dealing with my often complicated transactions. I have many a time praised them to my husband as my “best find of the year”.

How customer Vicky Trundle can complain over the fact she expected the post office to deal with her parcels “free of charge” is beyond me. Surely she must be aware of the constant struggle to keep such places open at all in this climate of closure of our much needed postal services?

To hold up long queues of customers and expect to be dealt with when profits are so small anyway is nothing short of ridiculous.

Do your bit for the community and let’s keep our post offices open.
