In The Press of September 23, City of York Council say it was worried about a £300,000 shortfall in parking fees.
In the past, its policy has been to encourage people to walk, cycle or use public transport and leave their cars at home; they can’t have it both ways.
Either the council has achieved its aim in reducing car journeys or, because of its attitude towards motorists, car owners are shopping elsewhere.
