PROPOSALS to make the historic home of the Archbishop of York more secure and energy-friendly have been drawn up.

City of York Council will make a decision in November on whether plans to double-glaze windows on the north side of Bishopthorpe Palace, the residence of Dr John Sentamu, can go ahead.

The Church of England Commissioners, who have submitted the scheme, say the move would increase security and the “energy performance” of the palace, with the extra glazing being fitted inside the building to avoid altering its external appearance.
