POLICE have launched an investigation after a 16-year-old girl was found dead at a house in a North Yorkshire village yesterday morning.
Earlier this evening North Yorkshire Police said officers were treating the girl's death as unexplained and that enquiries are ongoing.
An ambulance and rapid response vehicle were called to a property in Scorton, near Richmond, at 10.20am on Saturday morning, where the crews found the teenager unconscious and not breathing.
She was taken to the Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton, North Yorkshire where she was later pronounced dead.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that officers were called to an address in Scorton by the ambulance crew and that the girl was already dead when the ambulance arrived.
The spokesman added: "North Yorkshire Police are currently investigating the unexplained death of a 16-year-old girl."
