CAMPAIGNERS calling for a blanket 20mph speed limit to be introduced on residential roads in York are stepping up their drive next month.

The 20s Plenty For York group wants to see the restrictions brought in throughout the city and has asked for residents who would support such a move to back them by airing their views through City of York Council’s consultation process on the latest stage of its Local Transport Plan.

The group will also be holding a public meeting on Wednesday, October 6, at 7.30pm at 24 Grange Street, off Fulford Road, with more details available by phoning campaign manager Anna Semlyen on 01904 654355 or emailing anna.s@20splentyforus.org.uk.

The campaigners have claimed city-wide 20mph schemes in places such as Portsmouth have reduced the levels of casualties on the road and have improved traffic flow as well as making areas more environmentally-friendly.
