KitKat-eating squirrel spotted near Rowntree Park in York

IT MAY be one of the world’s most popular chocolate bars – but who would have thought that squirrels liked KitKats?

This picture of the Nestlé wafer bar being chomped by a cuddly rodent was taken by a Press reader near Rowntree Park, in York.

“It had come from the park,” said the pensioner, who did not want to be named.

“I saw it in a community garden and threw it a KitKat, and it just picked it up and started eating it.”

Speculation that the squirrel may have been attracted to the KitKat because the wrapper warned it “may contain nuts” appear unfounded.

On the other hand, there’s a good chance the furry creature was simply having a break.

Is this a free advert for Nestle or just the usual lazy boring journalism from Press reporters? Do I give a **** about a poxy squirrel?

I read somewhere that chocolate is extremely toxic for squirrels, i think it results in a slow painful death due to the blockage of their intestines which leaves the squirrel with difficulty moving. Eventually the squirrel will either starve to death or get easily picked off by a predator............

It wasn't exactly "spotted" was it? The person who took the photo gave it the chocolate bar.

If I put a fiver on the floor, I can't then turn around and say, "Hey, I just spotted a fiver on the floor".

Why are grey squirrels supposedly such a menace? Just because they are not native to the UK - they can't help their immigrant heritage! Why is it illegal to catch or kill a red one yet illegal to feed or release a live grey one from a trap?! Just because they might occasionally pinch nuts from a bird table! Squirrel fascism, that's what it is!!

Don't feed chocolate to animals. Especially your dogs, they can't digest it properly. If you want to give dogs a treat give them the special dog treats.

I also hear that Kit-Kat is actually good for baiting mouse traps with.

Numerous squirrels visit my garden for nut treats from a special box I have installed for them. They are wonderful creatures that bring a lot of pleasure, they are not a menace and certainly do not need wiping out.

Apparently squirrels are quite a delicacy.
Seeing as this squirrel is eating chocolate would mean if it was disease free and prepared properly would taste slightly sweeter then any other squirrel.

Yes, and he's been unwittingly eating it for years in those 'meat' pies in the pub! Why do you think they are so cheap.

Tricky one really. Mainly because red and grey are so indistinguisable as colours. But i'd go for red. But then again I'm not that great on squirrel species. There is a hint of red....compared to grey.
Although that would mean this squirrel is a protected species and anyone feeding it chocolate is committing a crime. I smell a proper story there.

Good grief! People, that.is.not.a.red.sq
uirrel! Not even close! 'Red' doesn't refer to the colour, it's a different species. They look very different - different size, different fur, different tail, different ears, different face! Different! Plus there's no way in hell that a Red would sit there on the ground and let a calculating undercover Nestle advertiser take shots of it.

That is what the hyphen is there for you fool, to create a compound between kitkat and eating. Go and look up fused participles and leave the pedantry to those of us who actually know what we are on about.
