MOTORISTS in York have been warned that a string of road closures due to come into effect across the city next month could cause delays.

Stray Road, in Appletree Village, will be closed to traffic between its junction with Bad Bargain Lane and a point north of that crossing from Monday until August 9 for resurfacing work, with drivers being diverted around Bad Bargain Lane, Burnholme Drive, Hempland Lane and Stockton Lane.

Telecommunications work will mean Skeldergate being shut between Bishopgate Street and Micklegate from 6.30pm on Wednesday until 6.30am the following day, while the installation of air conditioning units will lead to vehicles being barred from Parliament Street between its junction with Market Street and High Ousegate on August 9.

East Parade will close for a resurfacing project between Heworth Road and Mill Lane from August 9 to August 28. The closure is expected to take effect between 9.15am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. Alternative routes will be put in place along Heworth Road, Heworth Green, Foss Bank, Layerthorpe, Hawthorn Grove, Jewbury, St Maurice’s Road and Monkgate.

Vehicles will be barred from parts of Coney Street, Market Street and Spurriergate between August 11 and August 14 as escalators are installed at nearby shops, while Clifton Moorgate is to be closed overnight between its junctions with Longwood Road and the outer ring road from August 31 to October 3 for a resurfacing scheme.

Diversions will be available along the outer ring road and Stirling Road.
