A DRIVER could face jail after crashing his high-powered car, leaving himself and four others in hospital.

Leon Patterson, of Siding Lane, in Barlby, Selby, pleaded guilty to driving a black Subaru Impreza WRX dangerously.

York Crown Court heard that following the accident, on May 21 last year in Main Street, Riccall, Patterson himself spent three months in hospital.

Judge James Spencer adjourned sentencing until July 16 for a pre-sentence report but told Patterson, 25, that all options were open.

He granted him bail on condition he lives at the Siding Lane address.

Judge Spencer said: “The fact I’m asking for such a report and releasing you on bail should not be taken as an indication of sentence. This was a serious accident, severe injuries were caused and all sentencing options, including imprisonment, will be open.”

At the time of the incident, The Press reported that a total of six people had been injured – three seriously – in the head-on crash, The Subaru had come round a bend and crashed into a red BMW.

There were four passengers in the Subaru at the time who had to be cut from the vehicle and three of them needed hospital treatment, one being treated at the roadside.

The driver of the BMW, a local woman in her twenties, was also taken to hospital.

The road was closed for six hours while police cleared the scene and made inquiries.

Sue Taylor, joint owner of the nearby Park View Hotel, told The Press at the time: “That bend is deceptively nasty.

“It’s deceptive and if you’re going a bit too fast, I expect you can come to some grief because it’s a blind corner.”
