A COUNCIL boss from North Yorkshire has visited Buckingham Palace to be made an MBE by the Queen.

Derek Law, who received the award in recognition of his services to local government, is the corporate director of North Yorkshire County Council’s adult and community services.

Under his leadership, the department’s rating has shot up from “average” to a top performing “excellent”.

Mr Law, who went to Buckingham Palace with his wife, Helen, and son, George, said: “It was a wonderful day for myself and my family and a tremendous honour to receive the MBE from the Queen. Once again I want to pay tribute to the fantastic managers and staff I have had the privilege of working with over my many years in local government. “The MBE is as much a tribute to their contribution as it is an honour for me.”
