AN AEROBICS instructor has recruited more than 100 women to join her at next month’s York Race For Life.

Rachel Speight, of Haxby, who will run the race dressed as Piglet, from Winnie The Pooh, hopes her RAW RUN team will raise £10,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Team members range in age from ten to 67 years and all don pink tutus and silver space-boppers for their training run around Haxby and Wigginton every Tuesday evening.

Their team name, RAW RUN, stems from the 40-year-old’s weekly exercise class at St Mary’s Hall, in Haxby, which is called Rachel’s Aerobic Workout (RAW).

Rachel, who was given the Piglet outfit by her fiancé as a Valentine’s Day present, said: “RAW RUN is about having fun whatever shape, size or fitness you are – it’s about trying to beat cancer together.

“Not many people really enjoy keeping fit, so it’s my aim to put more emphasis on having fun so more people take part.”

More than 3,600 women have now signed up for the 5km event and another 800 women have entered the 10km option.

Both races will take place at York Knavesmire on Sunday, June 27, with the 10km race at 10am and the 5km race at 11.30am. Anybody who would like to join RAW RUN can phone Rachel on 07500 876113 or email her at racheljspeight@hotmail.co.uk. The group meets at 6.30pm every Tuesday in Linley Avenue, Haxby.
