POLICE seized 30 cannabis plants seized and arrested a 27-year-old following a raid on a house near Selby.

Seven police officers burst into a house in Thorpe Willoughby to find cannabis plants and growing equipment in a bedroom of the property and also in the attic.

The officer in charge of the operation said he was glad the drugs would not now appear for sale on the streets of North Yorkshire.

Inspector Richard Abbot, of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We will not tolerate the production of illegal drugs within our communities and we will do everything in our power to ensure that people involved in such activity are brought to justice.

“Our Safer Neighbourhood Teams have visited residents in the area to reassure them and keep them informed about what we have been doing. They can rest assured that we will not let people involved with drugs have an easy ride in our district.

“I am delighted that we have uncovered what appears to be a fairly large cannabis grow and the fact that we have found it means it is not available on the streets.”

A spokesman for Selby Police said they were unable to say how much the plants would be worth if sold illegally on the streets.

As well as the haul of cannabis, officers also found equipment “commonly used in the cultivation of cannabis”.

A small bag of white powder was also found in the kitchen of the house.

Police say they arrested a Selby man yesterday on suspicion of cultivating cannabis. He has since been released on police, while further enquiries are carried out.
