NORTH YORKSHIRE artist John D Wilson has been invited to join the Elephant Parade in London this summer.

The parade forms part of an open-air exhibition to raise money for the endangered elephants of Asia.

More than 250 international artists and celebrities, including Mr Wilson, of Knaresborough, have been invited to paint a life-size model baby elephant which will go on display around London.

From May to July, they will be located in parks, on street corners and in public buildings. All of the models of young elephants will then be herded together in one of London’s green spaces for a public exhibition Mr Wilson said: “I have a deep-felt connection and passion for animal welfare, so what better charity event to be involved in than the Elephant Parade.”

A number of the elephants will be auctioned at Sothebys in June, with the remainder auctioned online in the hope of raising more than £1 million.

Some of the high-profile names involved are Jack Vettriano, Sir Terrence Conran, Tommy Hilfiger, Lulu Guinness and Sir Paul Smith.
