POLICE are hunting a mugger who robbed a lone woman in broad daylight.
Detectives are also appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened between 5.15pm and 5.35pm on Monday.
The man began following the 26-year-old woman as she walked home from work along Blossom Street, in York, towards Holgate Road.
As she approached the junction of Wilton Rise, in Holgate Road, the woman was talking on her Nokia mobile phone.
The man, who is described as white, aged in his 30s, with blond, scruffy hair, then snatched the black phone from her, and ran off.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “This was obviously a very distressing incident for the victim and we are keen to catch the man responsible. If anyone was in the Holgate Road area at the time of the incident or saw the theft take place, they should contact the police or Crimestoppers immediately.”
Anyone with any information is urged to phone PC Kate Burrell, of York Police, on 0845 60 60 247, quoting reference number 12100052485.
Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
