A 25-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital after being assaulted during a brawl that started in a Selby pub.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the attack in the pedestrianised shopping area of Market Cross on Easter Sunday.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said the disturbance involved about 12 people and began inside the Abbey Vaults pub, in James Street, shortly before 9pm.
He said the incident then continued on Market Cross, between the Abbey Vaults and the Yorkshire Bank.
A 25-year-old local man sustained extensive bruising to his head and body and was taken to York Hospital for treatment. Sergeant John Suchomski, of Selby Police, said: “Officers responded to this incident immediately and it appears that the victim sustained his injuries somewhere in the location of the pedestrianised shopping area of Market Cross.
“We are examining CCTV evidence within the public house and in the street outside in an attempt to identify those involved.
“It is apparent that many people who were involved in the incident or were witnesses to it left the area prior to the police attending.
“I would urge anyone who has any information to contact the police or Crimestoppers immediately.”
Anyone with any information to help the investigation should phone Sgt Suchomski on 0845 60 60 247, quoting reference number 12100051963.
Alternatively, phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
